Using Mederma®
Scars take time to heal, and you’ll get the best results from Mederma® if you follow all directions, including those for how long to use the product you choose.

Mederma® Advanced Scar Gel
Mederma® Advanced Scar Gel improves the appearance of scars.
For new scars (less than a year old):
Begin using Mederma® Advanced Scar Gel as soon as your wound has healed and the scab has fallen off, or after any stitches (sutures) are removed.
- Apply gel evenly and rub it gently into the scar - just once a day.
- Continue daily use for 8 weeks.
For old scars (more than a year old):
You may begin using Mederma® Advanced Scar Gel immediately.
- Apply gel evenly and rub it gently into the scar - just once a day.
- Continue daily use for 3-6 months.
Mederma® Advanced Scar Gel is generally safe for use on everyone in your family, from children to the elderly. Some people may be sensitive to one or more of its ingredients and may experience mild skin irritation, swelling or scar discoloration. If you experience any of these symptoms, discontinue use immediately. If symptoms persist, contact your healthcare professional. For external use only. Not intended for use on open wounds.
Tips for useMederma® Scar Cream Plus SPF 30
Mederma® Scar Cream Plus SPF 30 should be evenly applied and gently massaged into the scar 3 times daily for 8 weeks on new scars, and at least 3 times daily for 3-6 months on existing scars. Begin using Mederma® Cream as soon as your wound has healed and your sutures have been removed. You may start using it immediately on older scars. Not intended for use on open wounds. Mederma® Scar Cream Plus SPF 30 is available in a 20 gram tube.
For sunscreen use:
- Apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure
- Reapply at least every 2 hours
- Children under 6 months: Ask a doctor
- Use a water resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating
Warnings:
- Skin Cancer/Skin Aging Alert: Spending time in the sun increases your risk of skin cancer and early skin aging. This product has been shown only to help prevent sunburn, not skin cancer or early skin aging.
- For external use only.
- Do not use on damaged or broken skin.
- When using this product keep out of eyes. Rinse with water to remove.
- Stop use and ask a doctor if rash occurs.
- Keep out of reach of children. If product is swallowed, get medical help or contact Poison Control.

Tips for useMederma® for Kids™
Mederma® for Kids™ improves the appearance of kids' scars
Mederma® for Kids™ is a kid-friendly formula that goes on purple and rubs in clear. It is designed for kids from ages 2 to 12.
For new scars (less than a year old):
Begin using Mederma® for Kids™ as soon as the wound has healed and the scab has fallen off, or after any stitches (sutures) are removed.
- Apply a thin coat and gently massage it into the scar.
- Apply 3 times a day.
- Continue daily use for 3-6 months.
For old scars (more than a year old):
You may begin using Mederma® for Kids™ immediately on older scars.
- Apply a thin coat and gently massage it into the scar.
- Apply 3 times a day.
- Continue daily use for 3-6 months.
Warnings: Some children might be sensitive to ingredients. If your child experiences severe itching or swelling, or if the scarred area becomes discolored, discontinue use immediately. If symptoms persist, contact your pediatrician.
